Highly commended for Flood Information Portal
Lockyer Valley Regional Council’s Flood Information Portal (FIP) has received a nod at the recent Resilient Australia Business Awards.
Council’s FIP received a Highly Commended in the Awards, which celebrates the inspiring people and projects that build community resilience to disasters and emergencies across Australia.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council CEO, Ian Church said the FIP was developed over several years with the assistance of specialised consultants and funding support from the Queensland Government through the Innovation and Improvement Fund.
“The Flood Information Portal was first launched to the community in April last year. As the first flood information platform of its kind, it was an exciting initiative the region was proud to be pioneering.
“The Portal is a welcomed tool in Council’s suite of flood intelligence information which allows us to consolidate the flood information we have used in the past into an automated online system.
“Allowing access to detailed flood information for properties in the Lockyer Valley gives our residents the clarity and information they need to confidently make property-related decisions,” Mr Church said.
The Lockyer Valley is no stranger to flooding, with the 2011, 2013, 2017, 2021 and 2022 floods leaving a lasting impact on the region.
“As a Council, we are determined to improve flood resilience to make the region safer, protect people and property, and reduce flood vulnerability.
“The Portal is a tool which allows landowners and developers to better understand flood constraints, while also improving the quality and suitability of development proposals.
“From Council’s Disaster Dashboard to the Flood Information Portal – advancements in the accessibility of information for our community results in improved resilience, preparedness, and future planning. It is wonderful to see the Portal once again recognised for its innovation and value to the community,” Mr Church said.
