Expressions of Interest needed for Laidley Saleyards Working Group
Council is seeking expressions of interest (EOI) from local cattle producers to join a panel to explore options for the future of the Laidley Saleyards.
Council recently established a Laidley Saleyards Working Group (LSWG) in response to community concerns and feedback following Council’s decision to close the facility in June 2025.
Members of the LSWG will work constructively with Council and cattle industry representatives to discuss and evaluate potential solutions to support the local cattle industry in response to the significant compliance issues identified at Laidley Saleyards.
For more information on the LSWG, including eligibility requirements, or to fill out the EOI form, visit https://lockyervalley.engagementhub.com.au/laidleysaleyards or collect an EOI form from Council offices.
The EOI closes THIS Sunday 20 October 2024.
Be on the lookout for fire ants
Lockyer Valley residents who report suspected fire ants on their property are now entitled to apply for a fast-acting treatment kit from the government.
Once the sighting has been confirmed by the National Fire Ant Eradication Program, the Program will mail out the free kit, which residents can use to self-treat their property without having to wait for a treatment team. Fire ant treatments may also be available to purchase at local hardware stores.
If you spot suspected fire ants or nests on your property OR public land, please take a photo or video and report them within 24 hours to 132 ANT (132 268) or https://www.fireants.org.au/.
Council only manages fire ants on Council-controlled land.
