It’s vital we manage waste in both an effective and responsible manner for the long-term future of our region, and we’re taking this opportunity to ensure the draft Waste Management Strategy has accurately captured the community’s previous input and ideas on this important topic.

Be on the lookout for fire ants
Lockyer Valley residents who report suspected fire ants on their property are now entitled to apply for a fast-acting treatment kit from the government.
Once the sighting has been confirmed by the National Fire Ant Eradication Program, the Program will mail out the free kit, which residents can use to self-treat their property without having to wait for a treatment team. Fire ant treatments may also be available to purchase at local hardware stores.
If you spot suspected fire ants or nests on your property OR public land, please take a photo or video and report them within 24 hours to 132 ANT (132 268) or https://www.fireants.org.au/.
Council only manages fire ants on Council-controlled land.

QTM – temporary closure
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Queensland Transport Museum (QTM) is temporarily closed.
Planned maintenance of the QTM is due to take place in November, however Council had to bring forward the closure due to one of the main exhibitors advising they needed to remove their vehicles at short notice.
Given the logistical challenges of removing the displays to facilitate this, it is not practical to return the remaining exhibits before the planned maintenance which would require their removal again.
Council will update the community when the facility is ready to be re-opened. You can also stay up to date by following QTM’s Facebook page.
Make the switch to E-Notices!
Residents are encouraged to sign up to receive Council’s rates and animal notices by email. Not only will you avoid a $2 fee per notice, but you will also help save the environment and avoid any Australia Post delays!
Click here to sign up or collect and return your form in person at the Gatton or Laidley offices. Approved pensioners are exempt from the fee.
