Council Shares the Dignity
Lockyer Valley Regional Council is today kick-starting a month-long campaign to support the Share the Dignity Drive.
Share the Dignity is an Australian-based women’s charity that distributes female sanitary products to those experiencing homelessness, fleeing domestic violence, or doing it tough.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said Share the Dignity provided a vital service to those in need.
“As a Council, we have supported the Share the Dignity drive since 2019 to help supply a range of sanitary and health-related products.
“As an organisation, we will once again take donations of personal care items throughout November and would like to open this up for donations from the community as well.
“For those women who do require sanitary items, they come with a financial cost and the cost-of-living crisis is seeing more people being forced to choose between feeding their family or purchasing these products.
“By having these collection boxes on display in the Gatton and Laidley Customer Service Centres, we are also helping to open conversations and break down the stigma about periods.
“This is such important work, and I personally want to say a very big, heartfelt thank you to Share the Dignity for the important work they do,” Mayor Milligan said.
All donated items will be provided to the local Salvation Army, where a dedicated team of volunteers will make care packages for women in need of support.
Members of the community wishing to donate can do so by placing items in the marked purple bin, located in Council’s foyer in Gatton and Laidley.
Items can include sanitary items, deodorants, toothbrushes, toothpaste and soaps and must be: sealed in original packaging; no aerosol products; no medication, no food items and no razors.
