Council team raises more than $1500 for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Staff and councillors at Lockyer Valley Regional Council were awash in pink throughout the month of October – and it certainly paid off!
Council staff donated a gold coin or more each time they sported pink throughout the month to support efforts to combat the impacts of breast cancer.
With more than $1500 raised for Breast Cancer Awareness Month through the range of internal fundraising efforts, Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan thanked Council staff and fellow councillors for once again backing this important initiative.
“Our team undertook a suite of initiatives throughout October to raise funds and awareness for the important cause.
“Thanks to our generous staff and councillors, all funds raised have been forwarded directly to the Lockyer Valley Cancer Support Group, to help make a tangible difference right here in the Lockyer Valley.
“The cancer support group assists cancer patients with transport to appointments as well as providing a safe group to chat about the impacts of this disease.
“We love partnering with our community organisations and we’re proud of our team for continually giving back to our region.
“This year’s theme was centred on the importance of doing things together, by working together, supporting each other, and ensuring everyone has access to information.
“Together, we really can make a difference – and we have certainly done just that.
“Sadly, breast cancer remains the most common cancer among Australian women outside of non-melanoma skin cancer.
“I urge residents, including men, to educate themselves more about breast awareness – it really could save your life,” Mayor Milligan said.
