Community groups revel in $34k worth of grants
Community and sporting groups have shared in almost $34,000 thanks to Lockyer Valley Regional Council’s latest round of grants.
Fourteen groups were successful in applying for funding under Round 2 of the Major Community Grants Program, which provides grants of $1000 to $4000 to local not-for-profits to deliver initiatives and upgrades that benefit the wider community.
Sport and Recreation Portfolio Councillor Anthony Wilson said it was fantastic to see so many organisations throwing their hat in the ring.
“The spread we’ve got is incredible.
“It’s a real privilege to be able to reward our local community groups and we’ve had applications from right across the region, which is so good to see,” he said.
Laidley District Historical Society Grants Officer, Sandra Law, said the Society was thrilled to receive the news of their successful application of $4000.
“The grant will be used to upgrade the flooring in the main office, as well as the boardroom and military museum at Laidley Pioneer Village.
“It will also greatly improve the aesthetics of the area and make the facility look more presentable when visitors come,” she said.
The Stockyard Hall Committee was successful in receiving $4000 towards painting the facility’s external front wall, doors, and trim.
Committee member Terry Griffiths said the new coat of paint would go a long way towards protecting this important community asset.
“This will present the Hall in a visually pleasing way, which we believe will give the community a greater feeling of support.
“We’re hoping the wider community will also see the venue as an option for hire, which will mean greater resources for the Stockyard Hall community to use for community events,” he said.
Mayor Tanya Milligan congratulated the latest recipients and encouraged those who were unsuccessful to reapply next year when Round 1 opens in February.
“Unfortunately, we’re not able to give the green light to all applications as the funding only goes so far.
“The latest successful community grant funding recipients have some brilliant projects in the pipeline, and I look forward to seeing them come to life,” she said.
