Parking changes for East Street, Gatton
Parking changes will soon be implemented along a portion of East Street, Gatton following consultation earlier this year.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council will restrict car parking in certain sections of East Street between North and Crescent streets following a string of safety concerns.
Infrastructure Portfolio Councillor Michael Hagan said the changes come after Council received numerous requests from the public to review road safety and parking congestion along the road.
“Concerns were raised about lane widths, pedestrian safety, poor sight distances for both vehicles and pedestrians, and the potential difficulty for emergency services to pass through when cars are parked on both sides of the road,” Cr Hagan said.
“As a result, we prepared different options and undertook consultation with directly affected residents and businesses in August, and the final design has been shaped by them rather than being an arbitrary change by Council.”
The No Stopping zones will alleviate the safety concerns and improve traffic flow, Cr Hagan said.
“Parking will still be available on the frontage of William Kemp Park near the corner of Crescent Street, and part of our works will include formalising 45-degree angle parking spots in that area,” he said.
“The line marking and signage works will be conducted from Monday 16 December to Friday 20 December, weather permitting, with traffic management in place.
“We thank the community for its patience and cooperation while these works are completed.”
