Australia Day celebrations across the Lockyer Valley
Australia Day 2025 offers an opportunity to reflect on our recent challenges, respect those who put others before themselves and celebrate our nation’s resilience and unity.
With January 26 fast approaching, there will be plenty of ways you can celebrate everything that’s great about our country right here in the Lockyer Valley.
This year, Australia Day will be marked in many ways across the region and Lockyer Valley Regional Council will once again present its Australia Day Awards and Citizenship Ceremony as part of an impressive line-up of events.
The Australia Day Awards and Citizenship Ceremony will be held at the Gatton Shire Hall at 9am and Lockyer Valley Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said the Ceremony was a highlight of the Australia Day program.
“The day aims to pay tribute to individuals and groups who have made significant contributions to our local community or achieved exceptional results in sporting, environmental, or cultural endeavors and this year, we were thrilled to receive 36 nominations.
“I offer my sincere congratulations to all nominees, who all made significant contributions to our community,” Mayor Milligan said.
The 2025 Australia Day Ambassador for the Lockyer Valley is Mr Daniel Clarke, a passionate conservationist for the critically endangered orangutans of Borneo and Sumatra.
“Following the formalities, we’re inviting everyone to join us for a morning of Australiana entertainment, activities, and food.
“We’re excited to have live music by local musician Peta Pomerenke, face painting, a paint your own boomerang craft station and catering by Native Oz Bushfoods.
“We are also pleased to welcome an Auslan Interpreter, and a Quiet Zone will be available for those needing a break from the sensory overload.
“We will also welcome our newest citizens at our Citizenship Ceremony, held at the end of the official proceedings.
“What a meaningful way for our newest Australian citizens to mark the day – it truly is one of my favourite parts of my role as Mayor.
"Citizenship is a common bond uniting all Australians.
“On Australia Day, we pay tribute to the high-achieving members in our community who have made outstanding contributions and have given freely of their time, knowledge and enthusiasm to promote the welfare and wellbeing across the Lockyer Valley community,” Mayor Milligan said.
