Lockyer Valley Regional Council will soon commence construction on a new amenities building at Lake Dyer.
Made possible thanks to funding secured from the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program Phase 4, the project is all part of Council’s ongoing initiative to improve facilities for residents and visitors to the Lockyer Valley.
Council’s Infrastructure Portfolio Councillor Michael Hagan said the works, expected to begin shortly, would see the construction of a completely new amenities block that’s disability compliant, with five ensuites, ambulant toilets, a storage room and more.
“The new block will also include a disabled compliant toilet with a fold down baby change table, disability compliant ensuite and a laundry with two sinks.
“The building will also feature a large disability compliant ramp, as well as two entry and exit points at the front of the building to offer access requirements to all users.
“Features like ramps, wider doorways and accessible restrooms remove physical barriers, allowing everyone to engage with the space safely and comfortably,” he said.
Cr Hagan said the project represents the region’s growth, as well as Council’s commitment to providing services and facilities that meets our growing community.
“We want to encourage our community to enjoy the beautiful region we call home, yet to do that they need accessible and welcoming facilities.
“Enhancing our quality of life and promoting community connection and the wellbeing of our residents, while also providing access to modern, functional and practical amenities, is a core value for our Council,” Cr Hagan said.
The new building will be located to the side of the existing building, which will remain operational throughout the construction period.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of April, with the demolition of the old structure to begin in early May.
