Weekly News Briefs - 24 April 2025
Anzac Day 2025
Tomorrow, Friday 25 April, the nation will pause to remember those who served and died in major wars and conflicts. Council encourages community members to show their respects by attending one of the many services held across the region.
All current and ex-service men and women, people representing ex-service personnel, schools, and sporting and community groups are invited to participate in Anzac Day marches. For the full list of local services and marches, visit Council’s website.
New trainees begin at Council
Council has officially welcomed its 2025 cohort of trainees and apprentices.
This year’s recruits have secured positions in fields as diverse as Customer Experience, Disaster Management, Business Support and Innovation, Information Management and Waste/Construction.
Throughout their placement, the apprentices and trainees will receive hands-on experience under the supervision of knowledgeable leaders and staff, many of whom have decades of experience at Council or in local government generally.
The business traineeships are proudly funded by the Queensland Government through the First Start Program under the Skilling Queenslanders for Work Initiative.

The free drop-in clinic is held every Tuesday at the Gatton Library from 9.30am to 11.30am. Bookings for specific appointments are available from 1pm to 3pm.
For more information, phone West Moreton Health on 3817 2340.
Mosquito warning
Council is supporting West Moreton Health with its mosquito trapping program to help reduce the local risk of the Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV).
Following flooding, exposure to mosquito-borne diseases can increase. To reduce the risk of being bitten, residents are encouraged to wear protective clothing and apply insect repellent when going outside, especially at dawn and dusk.
Residents should also empty water-holding receptacles around their home, such as pot plant trays, bird baths, buckets and other containers and depressions, to reduce mosquito breeding grounds.
