Community Development
Workshops and Networking
Council regularly runs workshops and networking opportunities for local community groups, with the aim of building the capacity of groups in areas such as grant-writing, governance matters, marketing, volunteer recruitment and more.
Council’s Engagement Team promotes upcoming activities in a variety of ways, including via email. If you are a member of a local community group and would like to be added to our contact database for event notifications, please email engagement@lvrc.qld.gov.au.
Following Council on Facebook and subscribing to the Community Connect or On the Ball newsletters are other great ways to be kept up-to-date on upcoming workshops and capacity-building opportunities for your group.
Sport & Recreation Clubs
Council’s Sport and Recreation Development Officer is calling on all sporting and recreational clubs in the region to update their contact details with Council. This will ensure that you receive important updates and information about grant funding and other opportunities as they arise. To update your details, complete the Club Contact Details form via this link: forms.office.com/r/JD4jmSJE2r.

Outdoor Movies Equipment
Council has outdoor movie equipment that can be hired by community groups to hold community movie nights. Council staff transport, setup, operate and pack up all the equipment necessary to run an outdoor movie. It is the community group’s responsibility to ensure that they have their own public liability insurance for the event and that they obtain a licence to screen the movie (and a soundtrack licence from APRA where applicable).
The charge-out rate for a community movie night is generally around $280, which covers one Council officer’s time (out of hours) to load, transport, setup, operate, pack up and return the equipment. Where Council believes the event provides a genuine community development or engagement opportunity for Council, the charge-out rate may be reduced or waived. Review the Outdoor Movies - Overview for Community Groups for more information.
Hire of Council’s outdoor movie equipment is subject to availability of the equipment and Council staff. Council generally only operates the equipment a maximum of once per month across the whole region, and aims to share resources equitably across the community. For more information please contact Council’s Engagement Team on 1300 005 872 or email engagement@lvrc.qld.gov.au.
Disaster-ready Community Groups
Council recognises that community groups of all shapes and sizes play an important role in times of disaster. They may provide support services to people who have been directly affected by floods or fires, they may provide volunteers to help clean up, they may get programs up and running so that people can continue with as much of normal life as possible, or they may help in other ways.
For groups to be able to help following disasters, they need to be reasonably disaster proof themselves. To assist your group to be prepared and able to respond in a timely manner, Council encourages you to download these resources below and share them with your group.
- Planning Checklist (PDF 283kb)
- Recovery Toolkit (PDF 682kb)
Remember, if you wait until a disaster strikes to think about preparing, it will likely be too late. Make time at your next group meeting to discuss your preparations.
If you need assistance, contact Council's Disaster Management Team on 1300 005 872 or email.
