Minister Scanlon Visit to FOGO
Lockyer Valley Regional Council was proud to play host to Meaghan Scanlon MP on 17 January 2023 – showing off the fruits of our residents' labour.
Thanks to a Queensland Government grant that enabled the FOGO trial, residents have quite literally turned trash into treasure by converting community waste into a nutrient resource.
In an astounding example of ‘you reap what you sow’, the FOGO trial has helped our community divert 400 tonnes of compostable waste from landfill – the equivalent weight of 77 elephants.
Council has used a static aerated composting system and process the material ourselves, and we’ve managed to generate an end user product that has been used as a soil conditioner in local spaces.
We’re thankful for both Minister Scanlon taking the time to visit our small regional Council, as well as for her government’s funding which has enabled this trial.
We’ll continue to lead the fight in the war against waste – keeping the momentum going in our bold commitment to shape the future of our region.
